I visited the annual Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) annual conference a couple of weeks ago in Hammersmith, London and had a great time attending some inspirational Masterclasses from some of the established Wedding Photographers whose work I admire. In particular there was great session from American Doug Gordon, the always great Annabel Williams, the much admired Damien Lovegrove. On the Sunday I returned to attend a Superclass with the great Gordon McGowan who for my money is the new Bob Carlos Clarke of Wedding and Portrait photography. The way Gordon thinks about posing and composition is just amazing and for a man who is definitely non-technical he is in my humble opinion a genius whose post photoshop production images are both stunning and dramatic have a look at his website to see what I mean. We wandered around the Novotel in Hammersmith looking for unusual architectural structures to pose the bride and groom and got some really different images.
Anyway the real reason for this post is to very proudly announce that I was awarded one of the coveted SWPP Merit Awards for the Traditional Wedding category in their annual International 20 x 16 print competition from a Wedding I shot at the Tudor Barn in Burnham, Bucks last October. It’s the first time I have gotten around to entereing any prints into this high profile International competition and I was very proud to see my selected entry alongside Merits from some of my peers, the best UK and Overseas wedding photographers around (including Gordon McGowan!!). I have posted a few pictures my assistant took and of course a copy of the print that was awarded the merit……..am very chuffed and proud!! (thanks to Michelle my trusty assistant for the pics, have a great time shooting (with her camera!) big cats in Africa and see you back safe and sound in April for another exciting wedding season!!)
