Last Wednesday I drove up to the mill house hotel kingham to meet a lovely couple whose wedding I am shooting in July to have a pre-wedding chat and to take a few engagement portraits. I often do this with couples who book me to cover their wedding as it’s a great fun way of us getting to know each other a little better and for them to get a nice couple portrait before their wedding. I got to the venue and did a bit of scouting around for nice backgrounds and places for outdoor shots and was delighted to find a stream running around with a couple of wooden bridges which would be perfect. After our chat in the hotel over a coffee about which group photos the couple wanted on their wedding days and the running order of things we ventured outside……….as we moved over to the bridge it started to rain, then it became heavier and heavier. I chose some shelter under the willow trees and handed Steve and Sarah an umbrella but the rain became torrential and soaked and bedraggled we made a run for it inside!. Once we set up a couple of shots in the lounge by a large window the ceiling sprung a leak and the staff were dashing around with ice buckets and blankets trying to stem the impending flooding. We moved to another area and the same thing happened, and again in another area…………the staff were running around like crazy and there was talk of the electrics going at which point we got a final few shots and cut our losses. We ended up getting some nice shots but by the time I left one of the entrances to the hotel was completely flooded and on the way home my car needed petrol badly and I was limping down country lanes through massive floods. Thanks to my little Sat Nav I found a garage, filled the car up and headed for home to download the photos. A day to remember, Stephen & Sarah were great sports all day despite the rain, Am hoping for a really lovely day for their wedding in July for them as it’s a super venue.
