Ashridge House weddings are always very special weddings whatever the time of year. The house inside reminds me somewhat of the interior of Highclere Castle of Downton Abbey fame with it’s grand staircases, open galleries and full height interior. The house is on the border of Hertforshire and Buckinghamshire and has a rich history stretching back over 700 years. I last photographed a wedding at Ashridge House back in December for a winter wedding so it was nice to return in spring. Every time I have photographed there outside the weather has been stunning and the May spring wedding of Mary and Gavin was certainly no exception once the showers at the church were over. That was until the big group shot of everyone on the steps, as we were getting the guests outside the storm clouds were gathering and the moment I got everyone arranged on the steps and looking at my camera there was a clap of thunder and the heavens opened. Just enough time for me to get three frames taken before the guests dived back inside for cover.
Mary wore the most beautiful bespoke lace Suzanne Neville gown with sash and lace edged veil plus a gorgeous pair of Christian Louboutin shoes with those unmistakable crimson soles.
As I took the couple out into the grounds for the signature couple shots the sun shone as it has done since we arrived at Ashridge from a distinctly rainy church exit and just as I took my last frame of the couple, once again the heavens opened but as we dashed inside for cover the key shots were safely in the bag and the rest of the day could happily take place inside.
Stunning settings at both the church and at Ashridge House with a lovely couple made for a beautiful day and as I headed out to the car I managed to capture the last frame here of Ashridge House at twilight.
