As a photographer, I love getting the chance to shoot at new venues, and this beautiful wedding in the idyllic setting of Cripps Barn, Gloucestershire, was a real treat. Even the rain couldn’t put a dampener on Abi and Dan’s gorgeous wedding day!
The venue
I’ve never shot at Cripps Barn before (not to be confused with Cripps Stone Barn, FYI!), but what a venue! It’s an 18th-century barn surrounded by breath-taking Cotswold countryside (think rolling green hills and fields as far as the eye can see) and perfectly nails the rustic-chic trend. Cripps Barn ticks all the boxes, with roaring open fires, flagstone floors, Cotswold stone walls and dramatic timber frame. There’s an outside terrace, which looks out across the gardens and grounds – with some perfect spots for alfresco wedding pictures. If you’re looking for a Cotswolds wedding venue with a relaxed vibe, I think Cripps Barn is just the ticket.
The dress
Abi wore a floor-length Jenny Packham wedding dress from the amazing Ellie Sanderson. With the designer’s signature heavy beading and embellishment, along with sheer scalloped short sleeves, the dress perfectly channelled a chic vintage style. A stunning headpiece, again from Jenny Packham, and a bouquet of soft pink roses finished of the look to perfection. Her bridesmaids looked fantastic in long, dove grey gowns with plenty of sparkle, while her flower girl wore a princess-worthy tulle dress. Dan, the groom, looked dapper in a blue three-piece suit, pocket square and brown leather shoes – and his page boy looked very cool, dressed as his mini-me!
The day
Typically, the Great British weather didn’t play ball and it rained like crazy before the ceremony started – which made it a little tricky to get as many outside groomsmen shots as I usually like to – but thankfully stopped as soon as the bride arrived. Great timing! The ceremony room at Cripps Barn looked really magical, with pretty fairy lights and flickering candles creating a romantic atmosphere. With the rain out of the way, guests were able to mill around outside, taking in the sights during the drinks reception, while I managed to get some great group photos before taking Abi and Dan off for some couple shots. The venue is in such a quiet, rural setting and I loved finding lots of different, secluded spots for these special photos around the grounds.
Guests were treated to a delicious sit-down meal in the airy reception barn and a truly awesome wedding cake by L&E Cakecraft. The cake – a four-layer semi-naked (or half-dressed) cake decorated with fresh berries – looked like something straight out of Pinterest; absolutely incredible! For the evening reception, the dance floor was all lit up as I captured Abi and Dan’s first dance as Mr and Mrs. The couple also booked the amazing videographer, Cem at CMotion to record their wedding day, which you can see here:
