Wedding Photography at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons
Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons has always been one of my favourite places to photograph a wedding — and, if I’m completely honest, one of my favourite places simply to spend time.
One of the first Oxfordshire weddings I photographed was at Le Manoir back in 2008, and I’ve been fortunate to return many times since. No matter how often I photograph there, it remains a very special place.
There is, of course, the extraordinary food and impeccable service for which Le Manoir is famous, but photographically it offers so much more. The gardens change constantly throughout the seasons, the buildings are full of character and texture, and there always seems to be another beautiful corner or unexpected pocket of light to discover.
Having photographed weddings here over many years, I know the venue extremely well — where the light works at different times of day, where to go for photographs without disappearing from your guests for too long and, just as importantly, where we can create beautiful images if the Oxfordshire weather decides not to cooperate.
For me, that’s the real advantage of experience at a venue such as Le Manoir

A Relaxed Approach to Photographing Your Le Manoir Wedding

Le Manoir lends itself perfectly to the way I like to photograph weddings.
My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive for most of the day. I’m looking for the genuine moments as they happen — the reactions, laughter, conversations and little exchanges between people that can’t be recreated afterwards.
When it’s time for your couple photographs, I’ll give you enough direction to make sure you look your best without turning the session into a photoshoot.
At a venue as beautiful as Le Manoir, you really don’t need to overcomplicate things.
The surroundings do much of the work for us. My job is to find the right light, choose the right location and then allow the two of you to relax and be yourselves.
The result should feel elegant and beautifully composed, but still completely natural.
Eighteen Years of Le Manoir Wedding Photography
One of the great advantages of photographing the same exceptional venue over many years is getting to know it far beyond the obvious locations.
I’ve photographed everything from wonderfully intimate weddings with just a handful of guests to larger celebrations at Le Manoir. I’ve photographed ceremonies in the Japanese Tea House, couples around the beautiful gardens and water features, bridal preparations in the suites and portraits around the characterful buildings and stonework.
I’ve also photographed the venue through different seasons and in very different weather.
That experience means I’m not arriving on your wedding day wondering where we should go for photographs. I already have plenty of ideas, but I’ll always respond to the light, weather, season and, most importantly, the two of you.
No two Le Manoir weddings need ever look the same.
Your photographs should be about your wedding, not simply a checklist of photographs I’ve taken there before.

My Favourite Places for Wedding Photographs at Le Manoir
One of the joys of Le Manoir is the sheer variety of photographic opportunities within a relatively small area.
The gardens are an obvious favourite, but I also love using the old stonework, archways, pathways and quieter corners around the property. The pond can be beautiful when the water is still enough to create reflections, while the Japanese garden offers something completely different.
The area around Belle Époque is another favourite of mine. The textures of the brickwork and surrounding planting work particularly well for elegant portraits without the photographs feeling overly formal.
What works best, though, changes throughout the day.
A location that looks beautiful at midday may be transformed by the light a few hours later. That’s why I rarely work from a rigid list. I’ll keep an eye on the light throughout your wedding and, if I see something special, I may simply suggest we disappear for five minutes and make the most of it.
Some of my favourite wedding photographs have been created exactly that way.
