Samantha and Viktor celebrated their March wedding in style at Micklefield Hall, a gorgeous country house venue tucked away in the Hertfordshire countryside. I had so much fun photographing this couple, and I loved how they filled their day with thoughtful, personal touches.
The luxurious Hertfordshire country wedding venue Micklefield Hall
I love Micklefield Hall Weddings. It’s one of those special venues that manages to feel exclusive, luxurious and grand, while still feeling cosy and intimate. The 16th-century Tithe Barn is beautifully atmospheric and such a romantic setting for an English country wedding. The Micklefield Hall Estate stretches across 450 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, making you feel a million miles away from everything else. You can make the most of the Orangery, formal gardens and Temple for your big day; it’s an absolute dream to photograph! I’m not surprised Samantha and Viktor fell in love with the place.
Samantha’s red carpet worthy bridal style
Samantha absolutely shined in her gorgeous Eternelle dress by iconic British bridal designer, Suzanne Neville. It channelled an effortlessly glamorous feel, with off the shoulder straps and a draped corset. Made from super-soft satin, the dress had such a cool red carpet feel about it. Paired with a loose, wavy half-up-do, Samantha looked incredible. I love how she customised the dress by removing the sleeves for the evening party, too.
Our groom looked seriously sharp in his blue pinstripe suit – as did his son, who took the role of best man. Sticking with the colour scheme, the bridesmaids all wore navy blue satin maxi-dresses, in a mix of different styles.
A waterside outdoor ceremony
You never quite know what you’re getting weather-wise in March, and while the team at Micklefield Hall set up a ceremony plan B inside the Tithe Barn, the weather thankfully kept its side of the bargain and Samantha and Viktor were able to have the outdoor wedding ceremony they’d set their hearts on. A few drops of rain weren’t going to stop this amazing couple – that’s what umbrellas are for, right? – and even though the sun didn’t come out, nothing dimmed the absolutely stunning alfresco setting.
Samantha and Viktor exchanged their vows in front of Micklefield Hall’s temple area, with their close family and friends seated around the banks of the pond, under the shade of the estate’s 450-year-old oak tree. A single violinist provided a perfect musical moment as the bride and groom signed their marriage certificate, before the couple made their way onto the lawn for the traditional confetti toss.
White and blue reception styling
The Great Barn at Micklefield Hall was transformed into a spring wonderland for Samantha and Viktor’s reception. A dramatic floral installation created a more intimate space for their wedding breakfast, while giving the room a magical vibe. More floral displays of roses, stocks, hydrangeas and calla lilies, in white and blue, lined the tables, along with flickering candles in hurricane vases.
With its antique timber structure, the restored tithe barn is a spectacular setting for a wedding reception. And, with the addition of hundreds of twinkling fairy lights it was unforgettable. I love how each table was named after a different wine variety and favours were presented in elegant navy blue boxes. Such a sophisticated style for a cool reception.
The couple photos at Micklefield Hall
The grounds of Micklefield Hall are a dream for a wedding photographer, and we made the most of them with some gorgeous couple shots before the evening reception kicked off. The sun may not have been shining but the blossom was out in force and provided the most incredible backdrop for Samantha and Viktor’s photos.
Personal touches for a unique wedding
I love seeing the ways couples personalise their day and Samantha and Viktor filled their wedding with unique touches. I though the ‘In memory’ table, with a candle burning for the treasured family members who couldn’t be there, was such a beautiful addition to a beautiful day. There was also lots of fun touches, like the personalised wedding booklet which told their couple story, as well as taking guests through the order of the day. The wedding cake, in an on trend ‘naked cake’ style, was such an elegant choice and I loved how they got the party started with espresso martinis and negronis. The basket of flip flops for guests’ tired feet was an inspired touch!
