Solange and Chris said their vows in the luxurious and sophisticated setting of London’s iconic Gherkin building, high up on the 40th floor, in a wedding day that was full of personality and style.
The Gherkin wedding venue in London
Wedding venues don’t come any more wow-factor than The Gherkin. Instantly recognisable, this iconic London landmark sits in the centre of the city’s financial district and was the setting for Solange and Chris’ incredible wedding. The 180m tall, bullet-shaped skyscraper is one of the capital’s most captivating contemporary building and it was a really unforgettable experience shooting there for this special day. Solange and Chris got married on the 40th floor, with knock-out, panoramic views across London, before heading down to the 39th floor for their drinks reception and party.
The stylish London wedding couple
Solange and Chris were so much fun to photograph – I think you can tell that from the pictures! The couple, who met online, were smiling, laughing and joking all day and the wedding was a real celebration of love. It was a proper family affair, with Chris’ daughter as one of the bridesmaids and Solange’s son walking her down the aisle. He also did an absolutely fantastic speech.
The Pronovias wedding dress
Solange looked sensational in a very classy Pronovias gown, made from Mikado silk with a lace overlay. With buttons running all the way down the full skirt, it looked stunning from every angle She added a long veil and simple court shoes for the perfect finishing touch. Her bridesmaids looked very elegant in various style maxi dresses, in a deep burgundy shade. Chris didn’t let the side down and looked very sharp in his three-piece suit.
The London wedding day
In the morning I headed over to the 5-star South Place Hotel, where Solange and her bridesmaids were getting ready in their own suite. After getting some photos I met the boys, who were having some pre-wedding drinks in a pub close to the hotel. Chris, his two best men, his dad and his son Elliot were all there, and I love the photos of Chris having a pint to settle his nerves.
The couple lucked out with the weather, with blue skies and bright sunshine all day. This gave the most amazing light inside The Gherkin and I just love the stunning blue skies in the ceremony photos.
In keeping with the fun nature of the day, when the registrar asked the best men for the rings, they presented a ring box with two gummy rings inside, before thankfully giving them the real ones!
After the ‘I do’s the couple were covered with confetti petals as they walked back down the aisle, before we headed out together for some outdoor shots. We managed to capture some great photos outside The Gherkin, as well as some cool couple shots walking down the middle of the road. It was a great way to get a real feel of the London city setting and we didn’t get run over by any black cabs, so it was definitely a success!
As the couple and their guests were sitting down having their wedding breakfast, I was lucky enough to watch (and photograph) the sun set behind the BT Tower and the evening traffic wind its way over Tower Bridge – absolutely magical. What a day!
