Wedding of Emily & Ben, Wasing Park, Berkshire, 29th April 2011

Friday 29th April 2011, does that ring any bells with anyone?, particularly that we all had a day off work because some bloke called William and a girl called Kate were getting married somewhere posh in London?

Yes of course it was the big day too for William and Kate, a Royal Wedding to remember for our future king, union jacks everywhere you looked and the whole country was glued to the TV or lining the Mall in London waving flags.

Well in the beautiful countryside of Berkshire another stunning wedding was taking place, the wedding of Emily and Ben at Wasing Park, a stunning castle-barn that I have photographed weddings at many times before. I started the day watching the first bits of the “other wedding” on TV and then headed off just as shots of Kate leaving her hotel were being shown and I actually heard them tie the knot on the radio in my car on the drive to Wasing Park.

Ben and Emily’s spring wedding couldn’t have been more perfect, Wasing Park has a small but very beautiful stone church in the grounds and it is here they chose to get married, then the reception used both the other ceremony barn for drinks and the castle barn for the wedding breakfast and evening reception.

Emily looked truly stunning in her Maggie Sottero fitted lace gown with beautiful matching lace shrug it is one of the most beautiful Maggie Sottero dresses I have photographed and so perfect for Emily. The spring wedding theme was carried through the bridesmaids yellow dresses, the groomsmens’ yellow ties and the spring flowers. The weather was lovely all day and the couple managed to have a great reception mingling outside with their guests before I headed off for the signature shotsof them together in the beautiful grounds of Wasing Park.

There was quite a light-show during the first dance which set off the couples rehearsed dance moves perfectly

As I left I still managed to get a couple of parting shots outside as the sun was setting, then home to watch the “other wedding” on TV which my wife had already watched a thousand times already…….knowing a little more than the average wedding photographer about designer wedding dresses, I think I agree with my wife who owns Ellie Sanderson Bridal Boutique that the dress Kate Middleton wore was a “copy” of a gown by the one and only Sassi Holford we had seen at a catwalk bridal fashion show earlier in the year!!!

The following pictures are a brief snapshot of their day.

It was my privilege to shoot the wedding at The Orangery in Kent of childhood sweethearts Hannah and Dan in August 2023. The pair met in a maths class at secondary school – Hannah sat next to Dan, he called her “stupid” and, in Hannah’s words, “it was love at first...
