Hilles House Wedding

This Hilles House Wedding was the first I had photographed at this quirky Gloucestershire wedding venue

Hilles House is one of those rare places that feels like it’s stepped out of a storybook. Perched high on the edge of the Cotswolds, it offers sweeping views across rolling hills and patchwork fields that seem to stretch forever.

Isabella Blow the late wife of the owner of Hilles House was a hugely celebrated visionary of the fashion industry and she ‘discovered’ one of the twentieth century’s greatest ever fashion designers, Alexander McQueen who she hosted regularly at Hilles House and which is often cited as a place of great inspiration for him, The Grade II* Arts & Crafts manor has an undeniable creative spirit—every corner seems to hum with style and personality. On Sarah and Ant’s wedding day, the sun lit up its honey-coloured stone, and the gardens were alive with summer colour—a photographer’s dream.

Sarah, who is my niece and god-daughter, looked absolutely radiant. She wore the most exquisite Suzanne Neville gown—tailored to perfection, with delicate detailing that shimmered softly in the light. Its timeless silhouette flowed effortlessly as she walked, and paired with a sheer veil and pearl earrings, the look was both classic and quietly confident.

I’ll never forget photographing Sarah at the top of the grand stone steps, framed by the garden’s greenery, her smile wide and eyes bright the veil catching the breeze, her train sweeping behind like a whisper. Later, I caught her and husband Ant in the orchard, laughing together as the late-afternoon light filtered through the leaves, turning everything golden.

Inside, the Big Hall of this Hilles House Wedding made the perfect stage for portraits—its carved wooden doorway and honeyed light lending a richness to each image. One of my favourites is of Sarah standing there alone for a moment, taking it all in before the celebrations began.

As the day turned to evening, Hilles House gave us one final gift: a spectacular sunset over the hills. I photographed the couple silhouetted against the fiery sky, their hands clasped, the world around them fading into warm light.

Photographing any wedding is special, but capturing Sarah & Ant’s Hilles House Wedding felt deeply personal. Every frame told not just the story of a beautiful celebration, but of love, family, and a venue steeped in both artistic heritage and timeless romance.
